Description

These Banana Bread Brownies combine the moist, fruity flavor of classic banana bread with the dense, fudgy texture of brownies. Topped with a rich, nutty browned butter frosting, they make a decadent dessert perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Brownies:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Frosting:

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, browned
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1–2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan and Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch or 9×13-inch baking pan to your preferred brownie thickness.
  2. Mix the Brownie Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar together until smooth and well combined. Then mix in sour cream, eggs, vanilla extract, and mashed bananas thoroughly.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: Stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt gently until just combined, taking care not to overmix to keep the texture tender.
  4. Bake the Brownies: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and let cool completely in the pan.
  5. Make the Browned Butter Frosting: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and cook it until it turns golden brown and emits a nutty aroma, about 4–5 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  6. Combine Frosting Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the browned butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon of milk until smooth and spreadable. Add additional milk, if needed, to achieve desired consistency.
  7. Frost the Brownies: Spread the browned butter frosting evenly over the cooled banana brownies. Slice and serve.

Notes

  • For added texture and flavor, fold in 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips into the batter before baking.
  • These banana bread brownies store well in the refrigerator and develop even better flavor the next day.
