- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1½ pounds ground beef or Italian sausage
- 2 cans (28 oz each) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 bay leaves
- ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley or 1 tablespoon dried parsley
Instructions
- In a large skillet, sauté onion: Heat olive oil in a skillet, sauté onion until softened. Add garlic and cook briefly.
- Cook meat: Add ground beef or sausage, cook until browned. Drain excess grease.
- Combine ingredients: Transfer meat to crockpot. Add remaining ingredients, stir well.
- Cook: Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours or high for 3–4 hours.
- Serve: Remove bay leaves before serving.
