Ingredients
Scale
Pizza Base
- 13 oz Pizza dough (homemade or store bought)
Toppings
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce
- 1 & 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup cooked sausage (mild or spicy)
- 4 eggs
- Salt and pepper (optional, to taste)
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and grease a pizza pan to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal of the pizza after baking.
- Prepare the dough: Spread the pizza dough evenly into a 12” or 14” round on the greased pizza pan, shaping the base for your pizza.
- Apply sauce: Spread ½ cup of pizza sauce (marinara) over the pizza dough, adding more if you like your pizza extra saucy.
- Add cheese: Sprinkle 1½ cups of mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauced dough, making sure to leave 4 distinct open spaces for the eggs that will be added later.
- Place sausage: Distribute 1 cup of cooked sausage over the pizza, carefully avoiding the 4 reserved areas for the eggs.
- Initial baking: Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes until the cheese starts melting and the crust begins to brown.
- Add eggs: Carefully crack an egg into each of the 4 open spaces on the pizza. Return the pizza to the oven to bake for an additional 6 minutes until the eggs are set but yolks are still slightly soft.
- Finish and serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and season with salt, pepper, and sprinkle freshly chopped parsley on top. Slice into portions and serve immediately while hot.
Notes
- You can adjust the amount of pizza sauce based on how saucy you like your pizza.
- Use mild or spicy sausage according to your taste preference.
- For a crispier crust, pre-bake the dough for a couple of minutes before adding toppings.
- To ensure eggs cook evenly, try to crack them gently and keep yolks whole.
- This recipe can be modified to add vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms.
