Description

This Chili Cheese Dog Casserole is a deliciously comforting and easy-to-make meal featuring hot dogs wrapped in crescent roll dough atop a bed of hearty chili, topped with melted cheddar cheese. Perfect for game day or a quick weeknight dinner, this casserole combines classic flavors in a fun, kid-friendly way.

Ingredients

Scale

Chili Layer

  • 1 can (15 oz) chili with beans

Hot Dogs and Dough

  • 6 beef hot dogs
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough

Topping

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)
  • 1 tbsp melted butter (optional for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Prepare Chili Base: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and spread the canned chili with beans evenly across the bottom.
  3. Wrap Hot Dogs: Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles. Wrap each beef hot dog in a crescent dough triangle, starting at the wide end and rolling toward the tip to fully encase each hot dog.
  4. Assemble Casserole: Place the wrapped hot dogs evenly on top of the chili in the baking dish.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the crescent roll dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Add Cheese: Remove from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the hot dogs. Return the casserole to the oven for an additional 3 to 5 minutes until the cheese melts completely.
  7. Finish and Serve: Remove from the oven again, optionally brush the tops with melted butter for extra richness, and sprinkle with chopped green onions. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Swap beef hot dogs for turkey or veggie dogs to fit your dietary preference.
  • For extra heat, add diced jalapeños or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the chili before baking.
