Description

Crispy and golden fried wonton strips that make a perfect crunchy snack or flavorful topping for soups and salads, seasoned simply with salt or optional spices like garlic powder and Chinese five spice.

Ingredients

Scale

Wonton Strips

  • 12 wonton wrappers
  • Vegetable oil (for frying, about 2 inches deep)

Seasoning

  • Salt, to taste
  • Optional: garlic powder
  • Optional: Chinese five spice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Wonton Wrappers: Stack the wonton wrappers on a clean surface and use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut them into 1/2-inch wide strips, ensuring uniform size for even frying.
  2. Heat the Oil: Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or pot and heat over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C), ideal for perfectly crispy wonton strips.
  3. Fry the Strips: Carefully drop a few wonton strips at a time into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan, then fry for 30 to 60 seconds, flipping once until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  4. Drain and Season: Remove the fried strips using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel–lined plate to drain excess oil. Immediately season with salt or your choice of seasoning for enhanced flavor.
  5. Cool and Serve: Let the wonton strips cool slightly before serving as a crunchy snack or topping for soups and salads.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle garlic powder, chili powder, or Chinese five spice right after frying.
  • These wonton strips make a delicious crunchy topping for soups, salads, or can be served with dipping sauces.
  • Store leftover fried wonton strips in an airtight container for up to 3 days to maintain crispiness.
