Description

This Homemade Dog Food recipe is a nutritious and balanced meal made with ground turkey, brown rice, and a variety of fresh vegetables. It’s easy to prepare on the stovetop and provides a wholesome alternative to commercial dog food, perfect for keeping your furry friend healthy and happy.

Ingredients

Scale

Grains

  • 2 cups brown rice

Protein

  • 2 pounds ground turkey

Vegetables

  • 2 cups spinach, finely chopped
  • 1 cup carrots, finely shredded
  • 1 zucchini, finely shredded
  • 1 12-ounce package frozen green beans, cooked according to package directions

Liquids & Seasoning

  • ½ cup low sodium chicken broth
  • Pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Cook the Rice: Cook the brown rice according to the package instructions. Once done, set it aside to cool slightly.
  2. Cook the Turkey: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground turkey, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until it is fully cooked and no longer pink.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Add the cooked brown rice, chopped spinach, shredded carrots, shredded zucchini, cooked green beans, low sodium chicken broth, and a pinch of salt to the skillet with the turkey. Stir everything together well to combine all ingredients evenly.
  4. Simmer the Mixture: Continue cooking the mixture over medium heat for approximately 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the spinach wilts and the vegetables become tender.
  5. Cool and Serve: Remove the skillet from heat and allow the food to cool completely before storing in containers or serving to your dog. Make sure the food is not too hot to avoid burns.

Notes

  • Use low sodium chicken broth to keep sodium levels safe for dogs.
  • Make sure all vegetables are cooked to a tender consistency for easier digestion.
  • Allow the food to cool properly before serving to prevent mouth burns.
  • This recipe is designed for adult dogs; consult your vet for feeding amounts and adjustments for puppies or senior dogs.
  • Store leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or freeze for longer storage.
