Description

This Honey Orange Shrimp recipe is a quick and flavorful dish featuring large shrimp cooked in a sweet and tangy honey-orange glaze infused with garlic and a hint of spice. Perfect for a weeknight dinner, it combines the natural sweetness of honey and fresh orange juice with savory soy sauce and a touch of heat from red pepper flakes, garnished with fresh parsley and orange slices for a vibrant presentation.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Marinade

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice (about 1 orange)
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Orange slices (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp: Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Make the honey-orange sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, fresh orange juice, orange zest, minced garlic, soy sauce, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. Set aside.
  3. Heat the olive oil: Place a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Allow the oil to heat until shimmering but not smoking.
  4. Cook the shrimp: Add the shrimp to the hot skillet in a single layer. Cook for about 2 minutes on one side until they start turning pink, then flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes on the other side until fully cooked through and opaque.
  5. Add the sauce: Pour the prepared honey-orange sauce over the shrimp in the skillet. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, for about 2-3 minutes or until the sauce thickens slightly and glazes the shrimp evenly.
  6. Finish and garnish: Remove the skillet from heat. Transfer the shrimp and sauce to a serving dish. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and optional orange slices for a bright, fresh look.

Notes

  • For gluten-free option, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
  • If you prefer less heat, omit the crushed red pepper flakes.
  • Serve this dish immediately to enjoy the shrimp at their best texture and flavor.
  • This recipe pairs well with steamed rice, quinoa, or a fresh green salad.
  • You can adjust honey quantity based on your preferred sweetness level.
