Ingredients
Scale
Shrimp and Marinade
- 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup fresh orange juice (about 1 orange)
- Zest of 1 orange
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Garnish
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Orange slices (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the shrimp: Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper to taste.
- Make the honey-orange sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, fresh orange juice, orange zest, minced garlic, soy sauce, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. Set aside.
- Heat the olive oil: Place a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Allow the oil to heat until shimmering but not smoking.
- Cook the shrimp: Add the shrimp to the hot skillet in a single layer. Cook for about 2 minutes on one side until they start turning pink, then flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes on the other side until fully cooked through and opaque.
- Add the sauce: Pour the prepared honey-orange sauce over the shrimp in the skillet. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, for about 2-3 minutes or until the sauce thickens slightly and glazes the shrimp evenly.
- Finish and garnish: Remove the skillet from heat. Transfer the shrimp and sauce to a serving dish. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and optional orange slices for a bright, fresh look.
Notes
- For gluten-free option, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
- If you prefer less heat, omit the crushed red pepper flakes.
- Serve this dish immediately to enjoy the shrimp at their best texture and flavor.
- This recipe pairs well with steamed rice, quinoa, or a fresh green salad.
- You can adjust honey quantity based on your preferred sweetness level.
