Description

This Margherita Flatbread Pizza recipe delivers a quick and delicious Italian-inspired pizza with a crispy flatbread base topped with garlic, mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, fragrant basil, and Parmesan cheese. Perfect for a simple and satisfying meal ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 4 Flatbreads or Pita breads (I like the Papa Pita brand)

Toppings

  • 4 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 Roma tomatoes, sliced thin
  • 8 small basil leaves, cut into small strips (chiffonade)
  • 4 Tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare baking sheets: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spray two baking sheets with non-stick spray to prevent the flatbreads from sticking. Lay two flatbreads on each prepared baking sheet.
  2. Add garlic: Spray the tops of each flatbread lightly with non-stick spray to help the garlic adhere. Distribute one teaspoon of minced garlic evenly over the surface of each flatbread, spreading it to cover the top thoroughly.
  3. Layer cheese and tomatoes: Evenly sprinkle half a cup of shredded mozzarella cheese over each flatbread. Then arrange four thin tomato slices atop the cheese, followed by one to two tablespoons of the chiffonade basil strips for fresh herbal flavor.
  4. Season and add Parmesan: Lightly season each pizza with salt and pepper to taste. Then sprinkle one tablespoon of grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top for a savory finish.
  5. Bake and serve: Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven and bake for about 12 minutes or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden. Remove from oven and allow pizzas to stand for about 5 minutes to set. Optionally, season again with a little salt and pepper. Slice, serve, and enjoy your flavorful Margherita flatbread pizzas!

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, place the flatbreads on a pizza stone or directly on the oven rack for the last few minutes of baking.
  • You can substitute Roma tomatoes with other varieties such as cherry tomatoes sliced thin.
  • Adding a drizzle of olive oil before baking can enhance flavor and browning.
  • Fresh mozzarella can be used instead of shredded mozzarella for a creamier texture.
  • Basil can be added after baking for a fresher appearance and flavor if preferred.
