Description

Muddy Buddy Rice Krispies is a deliciously sweet and crunchy treat combining classic Rice Krispies cereal coated in a rich peanut butter and chocolate mixture, then dusted with powdered sugar for an irresistible snack perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Mixture

  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cereal & Coating

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chocolate peanut butter mixture: In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the peanut butter, chocolate chips, and unsalted butter. Microwave the mixture in 30-second intervals, stirring well between each interval until the ingredients are completely melted and smooth. Then stir in the vanilla extract to infuse flavor.
  2. Coat the cereal: Add the 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal to the melted chocolate and peanut butter mixture. Gently stir with a spatula or spoon to ensure every piece of cereal is evenly coated without breaking.
  3. Sugar coating: Transfer the chocolate-coated cereal into a large zip-top plastic bag or a mixing bowl with a lid. Add the powdered sugar, seal the bag or cover the bowl, and shake vigorously to coat the cereal thoroughly in powdered sugar.
  4. Cool and set: Spread the coated cereal evenly onto a baking sheet or parchment paper to cool. Allow the treat to set at room temperature before transferring it to an airtight container for storage to maintain freshness and crunch.

Notes

  • Use creamy peanut butter for a smoother coating; natural peanut butter can also work but may affect texture.
  • Microwave in short intervals to prevent burning the chocolate mixture.
  • Ensure the cereal is fully coated with the chocolate mixture before shaking with powdered sugar for best results.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
  • For a fun variation, add mini chocolate chips or chopped nuts after coating.
