Description

Peppermint Bark is a festive and easy-to-make holiday treat featuring layers of rich dark chocolate and creamy white chocolate infused with refreshing peppermint flavor, topped with crushed peppermint candies for a delightful crunch.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Layers

  • 8 oz dark chocolate (chopped or chips)
  • 8 oz white chocolate (chopped or chips)
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract (optional)

Topping

  • 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies or candy canes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Baking Surface: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of the peppermint bark and prevent sticking.
  2. Melt Dark Chocolate: Place dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until smooth and fully melted.
  3. Spread Dark Chocolate: Evenly spread the melted dark chocolate over the prepared baking sheet to form a uniform layer. Chill in the refrigerator for 10 to 15 minutes until just set but not fully hardened.
  4. Melt White Chocolate: Melt the white chocolate using the same microwave method, stirring until smooth. If using, stir in the peppermint extract to the melted white chocolate to infuse it with peppermint flavor.
  5. Add White Chocolate Layer: Spread the melted white chocolate evenly on top of the chilled dark chocolate layer.
  6. Add Peppermint Topping: Immediately sprinkle the crushed peppermint candies over the white chocolate layer, pressing them gently to adhere.
  7. Chill to Set: Refrigerate the bark for about 30 minutes until completely set and firm.
  8. Serve and Store: Break the peppermint bark into 30 pieces and store them in an airtight container for freshness.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and texture.
  • If you don’t have peppermint extract, you can omit it; the crushed candies will add peppermint flavor.
  • Make sure to crush the peppermint candies finely for easier biting and eating.
  • Store peppermint bark in a cool, dry place or refrigerate if you live in a warm climate.
  • You can substitute candy canes with other types of crushed festive candies if desired.
