Ingredients
Scale
Mozzarella Sticks
- 8 mozzarella sticks
Meat
- 16 slices pepperoni
Dough & Sauce
- 1 sheet pizza dough or crescent roll dough
- ½ cup pizza sauce (for brushing and dipping)
Seasonings & Toppings
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 beaten egg
Instructions
- Preheat Oven or Fryer: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) if baking, or heat oil in a fryer to 350°F (175°C) if frying to prepare for cooking.
- Prepare Dough Strips: Roll out the pizza dough on a flat surface and cut it into strips wide enough to wrap around the mozzarella sticks comfortably.
- Assemble Pizza Sticks: On each dough strip, layer two slices of pepperoni followed by placing one mozzarella stick. Brush the dough with pizza sauce, then roll the dough tightly around the fillings.
- Seal and Glaze: Use the beaten egg to carefully seal the edges of the dough to prevent leakage during cooking and brush the tops of the rolls with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Cook the Sticks: Bake the wrapped sticks in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes until golden and crisp, or fry in hot oil until the dough is golden and crunchy.
- Season: Remove the sticks from the heat and immediately brush with olive oil. Sprinkle evenly with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and grated Parmesan cheese for added flavor.
- Serve: Serve these pepperoni pizza mozzarella sticks warm with pizza sauce or garlic butter on the side for dipping.
Notes
- The mozzarella sticks should be fully frozen or very firm before wrapping to prevent cheese from leaking out while cooking.
- Pizza dough can be substituted with crescent roll dough for a softer, flakier crust.
- Frying results in a crispier texture, while baking is a healthier alternative with less oil.
- Extra pizza sauce can be warmed up for dipping, or garlic butter offers a delicious alternative flavor.
- Ensure dough edges are sealed tightly to avoid cheese oozing during cooking.
