Ingredients
Scale
Apple Dumplings
- 1 large apple (Fuji, Granny Smith, or any tart apple)
- 1 can Pillsbury Crescent dough
Sauce
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup Mountain Dew (or any lemon-lime soda)
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare baking dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
- Prepare the apple slices: Peel and core the large apple, then slice it into 8 equal pieces to correspond with the crescent dough triangles.
- Wrap apple slices: Unroll the crescent dough and wrap each apple slice with one crescent triangle, starting from the wide end to enclose the apple securely.
- Arrange in baking dish: Place each wrapped apple slice carefully into the prepared baking dish, spacing evenly for even cooking.
- Make the buttery sauce: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in the sugar and ground cinnamon until well combined. Remove from heat and mix in the vanilla extract thoroughly.
- Pour sauce over dumplings: Pour the warm butter, sugar, and cinnamon mixture evenly over the wrapped apple dumplings in the baking dish.
- Add lemon-lime soda: Pour the Mountain Dew or any lemon-lime soda around the edges of the baking dish, being careful not to pour directly over the dumplings to maintain their coating.
- Bake to perfection: Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes until the dough turns golden brown and the sauce is bubbly and caramelized.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and serve warm, ideally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a luscious finish.
Notes
- Choose a tart apple like Granny Smith for a balance of sweetness and tanginess.
- If you prefer a different soda, lemon-lime carbonated beverages work best to help caramelize the sauce.
- The dumplings can be served with ice cream, whipped cream, or enjoyed on their own.
- To prep ahead, wrap the apple slices in dough and refrigerate until ready to bake.
- Make sure to grease the baking dish well to avoid sticking.
