Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients:
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 8–10 fresh sage leaves
- 1 clove garlic (minced, optional)
- pinch of salt
- freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)
- 1–2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan or skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the sage leaves and stir gently. Let the butter simmer until it begins to foam and turns a light golden brown, about 4–5 minutes.
- If using garlic, add it during the last minute of cooking.
- Remove from heat and season with a pinch of salt and black pepper.
- Stir in lemon juice if desired for brightness.
- Spoon the sauce over cooked pasta, gnocchi, ravioli, or roasted vegetables.
- Top with grated Parmesan if using and serve immediately.
Notes
- For the best flavor, use fresh sage.
- Be careful not to burn the butter—remove from heat as soon as it turns golden and smells nutty.
- This sauce pairs especially well with butternut squash ravioli or sweet potato gnocchi.
