Description

This Slow Cooker Creamy Chicken & Gravy recipe offers tender, flavorful chicken cooked low and slow in a rich, savory gravy made with cream of chicken soup, spices, and a touch of sour cream. Perfectly easy to prepare, this comforting dish is ideal for serving over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles for a hearty family meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs

Gravy Sauce

  • 1 ½ cups chicken broth
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • ½ cup sour cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Slow Cooker: Lightly grease your slow cooker to prevent sticking and make cleaning easier.
  2. Add the Chicken: Place the chicken breasts or thighs at the bottom of the slow cooker, arranging them evenly.
  3. Mix the Sauce: In a mixing bowl, whisk together chicken broth, cream of chicken soup, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, salt, and dried parsley until well combined.
  4. Pour Sauce Over Chicken: Pour the prepared mixture over the chicken pieces to fully coat them.
  5. Cook: Cover and cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.
  6. Shred Chicken and Finish: Using two forks, shred the chicken directly in the slow cooker, mixing it into the gravy. Stir in the sour cream if using, to add extra creaminess.
  7. Serve: Serve the creamy chicken and gravy hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles for a delicious and comforting meal.

Notes

  • Using thighs instead of breasts will result in a moister, more flavorful dish.
  • For a thicker gravy, you can remove the lid during the last 30 minutes of cooking to let some liquid evaporate.
  • Sour cream is optional but adds a nice richness to the gravy.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • This recipe can be doubled easily for larger gatherings.
