Description

Spooky Spider Deviled Eggs are a fun and festive appetizer perfect for Halloween parties. Hard-boiled eggs are filled with a creamy yolk mixture seasoned with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and vinegar, then decorated with black olive ‘spiders’ to create a creepy-crawly effect that’s sure to delight guests of all ages.

Ingredients

Scale

Eggs and Filling

  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Decoration

  • 12 black olives (pitted)
  • Optional paprika for garnish

Instructions

  1. Boil the Eggs: Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover them with cold water. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, cover the pan, remove it from the heat, and let the eggs sit for 10–12 minutes to cook thoroughly.
  2. Cool and Peel: Drain the hot water and immediately cool the eggs in an ice bath to stop the cooking process and make peeling easier. Once cooled, peel the eggs and slice them in half lengthwise.
  3. Prepare the Filling: Carefully remove the yolks from the egg whites and place the yolks in a bowl. Mash them with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, white vinegar, salt, and pepper until you achieve a smooth and creamy consistency.
  4. Fill the Egg Whites: Spoon or pipe the yolk mixture back into the hollowed egg whites evenly.
  5. Create the Spider Decorations: Cut 6 black olives in half lengthwise. Use one half as the spider body on each deviled egg. Then, slice the remaining olive halves into thin strips to form the spider legs — place three legs evenly on each side of the olive body to resemble a spider’s legs.
  6. Garnish and Chill: Sprinkle the filled eggs with paprika if desired for added color and flavor. Chill the decorated deviled eggs until ready to serve to enhance their taste and texture.

Notes

  • For added flavor and color, try mixing a little sriracha or curry powder into the yolk filling.
  • Use Kalamata olives for a more intense and rich olive flavor.
