Description

These delightful Strawberry Nutella Hand Pies combine flaky puff pastry with a luscious Nutella and fresh strawberry filling, making for an irresistible dessert that’s perfect for any occasion. Easy to make and beautifully golden when baked, they offer a sweet treat with a fruity twist, dusted lightly with powdered sugar for an elegant finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Puff Pastry and Filling

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1/4 cup Nutella
  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberries (diced)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Finishing

  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to ensure the hand pies do not stick and bake evenly.
  2. Macreate Strawberries: In a small bowl, mix the diced fresh strawberries with granulated sugar and lemon juice. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes to allow the strawberries to release their juices and develop flavor.
  3. Prepare Puff Pastry: Lightly flour a surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet. Cut it into 6 equal rectangles for making 3 hand pies.
  4. Assemble Hand Pies: Place a teaspoon of Nutella and about a tablespoon of the macerated strawberry mixture in the center of 3 of the rectangles, leaving the edges clean for sealing.
  5. Seal Edges: Cover each filled rectangle with another rectangle of puff pastry. Press the edges together firmly with a fork to seal the pies and avoid leaks during baking.
  6. Brush and Vent: Brush the tops of the hand pies with the beaten egg to promote browning. Using a sharp knife, cut a small slit on top of each pie to allow steam to escape while baking.
  7. Bake: Bake the hand pies in the preheated oven for 15–18 minutes or until they are puffed up and golden brown.
  8. Cool and Serve: Let the pies cool slightly on a wire rack before dusting with powdered sugar if desired. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can substitute strawberries with raspberries or use jam for a quicker and easier version of the filling.
  • These hand pies are best enjoyed warm but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Ensure the puff pastry is well chilled before rolling for easier handling and better puffing.
  • Use a sharp knife or pastry cutter for clean edges and neat hand pies.
