Description

This invigorating turmeric shot combines fresh turmeric and ginger roots with lemon juice, black pepper, and optional honey and cayenne for a zesty and health-boosting drink. Designed to be quick and simple, it provides an anti-inflammatory and immune-supporting beverage that can be enjoyed daily.

Ingredients

Scale

Fresh Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon fresh turmeric root, grated (or 1 teaspoon turmeric powder)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger root, grated (or 1 teaspoon ginger powder)
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced

Spices and Sweeteners

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (to activate the turmeric)
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)

Liquids

  • 1/2 cup water (or coconut water for added electrolytes)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Grate the fresh turmeric and ginger roots using a fine grater or microplane. If you are using powdered turmeric or ginger, you can skip this step.
  2. Juice the Lemon: Squeeze the juice from half a lemon into a small bowl or jar.
  3. Combine All Ingredients: In a small blender, food processor, or a jar, combine the grated turmeric, grated ginger, lemon juice, black pepper, honey (if using), and cayenne pepper (if using).
  4. Add Water: Add the water (or coconut water) to the mixture. Blend or shake vigorously to combine all the ingredients. If you’re using a blender, blend for 15-20 seconds until smooth.
  5. Strain (optional): If you want a smoother shot, strain the mixture using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove any pulp. Leaving the pulp in can give you extra fiber and nutrients.
  6. Serve: Pour the turmeric shot into a small glass and enjoy immediately!

Notes

  • Using fresh turmeric root gives a brighter flavor and more nutrients, but powder can be a convenient substitute.
  • Black pepper is essential to activate the curcumin compound in turmeric, enhancing absorption.
  • Adjust honey or maple syrup to taste for preferred sweetness.
  • Drink immediately for the best flavor and maximum nutrient benefits.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours; shake before consuming.
  • Consult your doctor if you have any medical conditions or are taking medications, as turmeric shots may interact with some drugs.
