Ingredients
Scale
Dough
- 1 cup self-rising flour (or 1 cup all-purpose flour + 1 ½ tsp baking powder + ¼ tsp salt)
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (unsweetened, full-fat or low-fat)
Toppings
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Coarse salt, cinnamon sugar, or sesame seeds (as desired)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Mix Dough: In a medium bowl, combine the self-rising flour and Greek yogurt. Stir together until a soft dough forms.
- Knead Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 2 to 3 minutes until the dough is smooth and no longer sticky.
- Shape Bites: Divide the dough into approximately 20 small pieces, then shape each piece into a ball or pretzel shape, depending on your preference.
- Prepare for Baking: Place the shaped bites onto the prepared baking sheet. Brush each bite with the beaten egg wash to promote a shiny, golden crust. Sprinkle your choice of coarse salt, cinnamon sugar, or sesame seeds on top.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the bites turn golden brown. Once done, remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute self-rising flour with all-purpose flour plus baking powder and salt as specified.
- If you prefer vegan or egg-free options, skip the egg wash; the bites will still bake nicely but with a less shiny crust.
- Cinnamon sugar topping makes a sweet variation, while coarse salt or sesame seeds offer a savory option.
- Store leftover pretzel bites in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer storage.
