Ingredients
Scale
Vegetables and Herbs
- 4 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and peeled
- 1/2 cup green peas, boiled
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons coriander leaves, finely chopped
Spices and Seasonings
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon ginger paste
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala
- Salt to taste
Other Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons rice flour (for binding)
- Olive oil spray
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F) to prepare for baking the tikkis.
- Mash Potatoes: In a mixing bowl, mash the boiled and peeled potatoes until smooth.
- Add Green Peas: Add the boiled green peas to the mashed potatoes and mash them lightly to retain some texture.
- Mix Vegetables and Herbs: Stir in the finely chopped onion, green chilies, and coriander leaves to the potato mixture.
- Add Spices: Add cumin seeds, ginger paste, garam masala, red chili powder, turmeric powder, chaat masala, and salt. Mix well until all spices are evenly incorporated.
- Bind the Mixture: Gradually add rice flour to the mixture to bind everything together; the mixture should be able to hold shape when formed into patties.
- Shape Patties: Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape each into round, flat patties about 1/2 inch thick.
- Prepare Baking Tray: Line a baking tray with parchment paper and lightly spray it with olive oil.
- Arrange and Oil Tikkis: Place the tikkis on the tray leaving space between each. Lightly spray the tops with olive oil for crispiness.
- Bake the Tikkis: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes on one side.
- Flip and Continue Baking: Flip the tikkis and bake for another 10-15 minutes until golden brown and crispy on both sides.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Using rice flour helps bind the patties without adding gluten, making it suitable for gluten-free diets.
- Adjust the number of green chilies according to your spice preference.
- For extra crispiness, you can brush the tikkis with olive oil instead of spraying.
- These tikkis can be served with green chutney or tamarind sauce for added flavor.
- Ensure the potatoes and peas are well drained to avoid excess moisture in the mixture.
