Description

These soft and easy Yogurt Flatbreads are a quick homemade bread option made with simple ingredients like all-purpose flour, Greek yogurt, and olive oil. Cooked on the stovetop, they have a deliciously fluffy texture with golden brown spots, perfect for serving alongside dips, curries, or as a base for wraps.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups (320g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240g) plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ¼ cup warm water (as needed)

Additional

  • Extra flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt to ensure even distribution of leavening and seasoning.
  2. Add Wet Ingredients: Incorporate the plain Greek yogurt and olive oil into the dry mixture, stirring with a spoon until a rough dough begins to form.
  3. Incorporate Water and Knead: Gradually add the warm water a little at a time, kneading the dough as you go until it reaches a soft, slightly sticky consistency but not too wet.
  4. Knead Dough Thoroughly: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 3 to 4 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic, indicating the gluten is well developed.
  5. Divide and Shape: Divide the dough into 6–8 equal portions, rolling each into a ball and then flattening it into a ¼-inch thick round suitable for cooking.
  6. Cook on Skillet: Heat a dry skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each flatbread for 1–2 minutes on each side, until bubbles form on the surface and golden brown spots appear underneath.
  7. Keep Warm and Serve: Stack the cooked flatbreads in a clean kitchen towel to keep them warm until serving. Best enjoyed immediately for maximum freshness.

Notes

  • If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time, to make it easier to handle.
  • Use a well-heated skillet to achieve nice golden spots and prevent the flatbreads from becoming doughy.
  • These flatbreads can be customized by adding herbs or spices to the dough for extra flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer shelf life.
  • Reheat on a skillet or in a microwave wrapped in a damp paper towel to maintain softness.
